From Puno, travel approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to Kasani, the international border crossing between Peru and Bolivia. Here, you will stop to complete immigration formalities and passport control, which normally takes approximately 20–30 minutes.
Once the border formalities are completed, continue for approximately 30 minutes through Bolivia until reaching the charming lakeside town of Copacabana.

Important Travel Information
Bolivia is 1 hour ahead of Peru. For example, if it is 2:00 PM in Peru, it is 3:00 PM in Bolivia. Please keep this time difference in mind when planning connections and activities after your arrival in Copacabana.
Kasani Border Crossing
The journey includes a stop at Kasani, the international Peru–Bolivia border crossing. All travelers must complete the required immigration formalities and present their passport and/or applicable identification documents to the immigration authorities before continuing into Bolivia.
Currency Exchange at the Border
We recommend exchanging money in Kasani, where exchange rates are generally more favorable than those available after arriving in Bolivia. Currency exchange offices can be found conveniently located near the immigration facilities.
Arrival in Copacabana
Upon arrival in Copacabana, the bus will arrive at the bus terminal located at Av. 6 de Agosto & Av. 16 de Julio, conveniently placing you in town to continue your stay or onward journey.

- Stop at a Kasani border for migration documentation. We recommend chaning money in Kasani since the exchange rate is better at the Peruvian side.

- Lunch. You pay for what you consume during lunch stop in Copacabana.
- US Travelers must pay a tourist visa tax of $135USD to enter Bolivia.

Terms & Conditions – Entry Requirements for Bolivia
To cross the border into Bolivia, please carefully review the following requirements:
- Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry. It is essential that you carry and present your original passport at the Kasani Peru–Bolivia border crossing.
- SIGEMIG Registration: We will assist you with the required immigration registration before you board the bus. Each traveler must have their own individual SIGEMIG registration, including minors, as required by the SIGEMIG system. Once completed, please save the generated QR code on your phone and have it readily available to present to immigration authorities at the Kasani border crossing.
- Tourist Visa Requirements: Visa requirements depend on the traveler's nationality. It is the responsibility of each traveler to ensure that they meet the current immigration and entry requirements for Bolivia. If you are unsure whether you require a visa, please contact Machupicchu Center and provide your nationality so we can assist you with the applicable requirements.
